Binning Wood
Saturday 24th September
***Results***WinSplits***Routegadget***
That was tough and offered some TD5 terrain, uncommon for Saturday afternoon events! If you were very careful and accurate you probably got on OK, but the controls weren’t going to shout “here I am” to you. The Short Green possibly wasn’t Short and the Green could have been called Blue (or Brown). Sorry that some of you ran out of time.
Our Saturday afternoon event was in Binning Wood, north of East Linton. The owners of the wood have done a lot of work clearing rhododendrons and Godfrey has spent many hours updating the map. In many areas the visibility has improved and hidden ditches have reappeared, although the brashings will slow you down.
Godfrey has planned White, Yellow, Orange, Short Green and Green courses, starting and finishing near the car park at the southwest corner of the wood.

Thank you Godfrey. I really enjoyed both of my attempts at Short Green – proper TD5 orienteering. I had no major problems finding any of the controls and the fact that on my second attempt I could use different route choices on every leg (except 8 to 9) shows how much route choice was built in to the course.
Generally the rpath route choices proved faster but the gap wasn’t as marked as might have been expected from rough terrain like this – even the thick rhododendrons were penetrable!
Ticks! Do check for ticks after yesterday’s event. I had about ten – mostly very small which makes them harder to spot
