Calder Wood
Sunday 15th May
SoSOL
After the huge ELO turnout for the midweek event at Hillend it was a small contingent who ventured slightly further west to Interlopers’ contribution to the SoSOL series held at Calder Wood near Livingston at the weekend.
The weather was bright and almost too warm. The area is a challenge for any course planner – quite small with two deep river cuttings bounding a flat plateau of sparse woodland. Many controls were on the various river banks and many legs required accurate compass work from one side of the woods to the other – or safety first routes via the extensive path network.
All our runners on Brown and Blue performed creditably and scored useful points both in the SoSOL table and in the BOF Rankings. Most runners had some trouble finding a riverbank control or two – but one in particular was very costly for Robin Strain in an otherwise strong run on Green. Lee Curtis shadowed son Ashley round a challenging Light Green course.
