Committee
ELO is looked after by a small committee, elected at the AGM to which all members are invited.
Come and speak to us at one of our events.
Committee Members
Jamie Wilson – Chair
Jamie took over as Chair during the AGM in 2021. He has been an enthusiastic orienteer and club member for several years. He is keen to see how the sport can continue to develop across the county for all levels, ages and abilities.
Pete Younger – Event Coordinator
Pete was Chair from 2017 to 2021 and oversaw a successful growth in club numbers. He is responsible for the programme of events which ELO runs each year.
Ian Rowland – Treasurer
Ian looks after the Club’s finances, making sure that we pay our bills and collect what is due.
Trina Rogerson – Equipment and Permissions
Trina lets the club use her garage to store much of our equipment. She maintains contact with the owners, tenants and rangers of all the areas we run on, ensuring we can hold events on a wide range of terrain.
Robin Strain – Secretary
As well as taking minutes at meetings, Robin’s responsibilities involve communications with British Orienteering and the Scottish Orienteering Association. More obviously, he champions the use of SPORTident timing systems at orienteering events not just in East Lothian but all across Scotland. At any events, he’s most easily found wherever the computers are.
Martyn Pegg – Committe member and Child Protection Officer
Martyn works for the East Lothian Outdoor Education Service and in his day job he is responsible for introducing hoards of pupils across the county to Orienteering. Martyn is working his way up the coaching scheme and is looking out for members wishing to improve their O.
Sheila Strain – Membership Secretary
She encourages new members, writes the club newsletter, explores new areas for mapping and is highly competitive within her age class, regularly representing Scotland at the Veteran Home Internationals. She’s often found hovering near the computers at events, as well as keeping Robin supplied with coffee.
Tim Harding – Committee Member
Tim has been orienteering for about 10 years, and is always seeking to improve! He has planned several local events, and is happy to have a go at all flavours of O: urban, night, sprint, … sometimes with his dog, Stefan, who still doesn’t know what it is they’re looking for. Tim is also often seen at the registration or download desks.
Michael Atkinson – Committee Member
Michael has been orienteering since 2015 when he came along to a summer evening event in Tranent and has enjoyed getting lost and finding his way again ever since. Often to be found trying to work out where the rest of the family have got to (trying to buy ice cream is a good bet), Michael looks after the website and the maps!
