Schiehallion Weekend
19/20/21 June
Eight ELO members competed in the various events of the Schiehallion weekend:-
- Friday – SOUL 4 (urban) race at Bannockburn – put on by Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO)
- Saturday – SOL 5 at Tullochroisk south of the river Tummel – FVO again
- Sunday – SOL 6 at Dunalastair north of the Tummel – Tayside Orienteers
All three events attracted large fields of local orienteers plus strong contingents of international teams preparing for the imminent World Cup.
Both SOLs featured tough technical courses on difficult terrain. Tullochroisk included long legs through thick moorland heather. Dunalastair was very varied but generally wet under foot.
Yet again our stand-out competitor was Sheila Strain who came 2nd or 3rd in each of the three races – great consistency. Others had individual good performances – and some of us had the lesser satisfaction of at least doing better on Sunday than on Saturday.
