CompassSport Trophy
Stirling 13th March

ELO finished 9th in the Scottish heat of the CompassSport Trophy. This is the competition for the 13 smaller clubs – and there is a separate Cup for the larger clubs.

Courses started in the steep woods next to Stirling University’s campus and climbed out onto the open moorland of Dumyat Hill before swooping back down to the Finish. There was a huge turnout of over 400 competitors from all over Scotland. Competition for the Men’s Brown courses was intense with several of Britain’s highest ranked orienteers battling it out on behalf of their clubs.

ELO in 9th place may not sound very impressive but it was an encouraging performance in many ways. We had more runners competing than for many years and everyone successfully completed their courses thereby scoring points towards our total. ELO was well represented at the older age of the spectrum but sadly we didn’t have any juniors for the shorter courses. Individual scores were solid across the board and Saartje Drijver contributed by completing her first TD5 course.

Each club counts its 13 best scores across all the eleven courses and can only count two runners on each course. As you can see from the results summary above the top 6 teams all scored with full 13 runners. If ELO had mustered one more scoring runner we would have jumped above BASOC into 8th place.

The top four teams (Clyde, Roxburgh Reivers, Interlopers and ECKO) proceed to the national final later in the year. Our hosts today were FVO who won the overall Cup in 2015 when Interlopers won the Trophy.
