ESOC event at Royal High School and Davidson’s Mains Park
22nd Nov
It was busy at ESOC’s local event, and courses had a good mixture of terrain, starting round the buildings of Royal High School, then into the mixture of parkland with fringes of woodland then back into the school playing fields. Star performer from ELO was Benji Edmondson who was third on the Yellow course. Younger sister, Freya, helped by Dad was 9th on White, beaten by one place by the Macleod Family. The Adamson family would have been well placed on the Orange course if they had not been so keen to run to the Finish that they did not punch at the last control!
Map memory is a skill worth practising as it focuses the mind on taking in the important details from the map. For the adults, doing the Green course by memory (with a map showing the next two or three controls displayed at the previous control) was an option. Sheila Strain tried it only to find her memory was lacking and had to return to the snippets of map for reminders, but claimed to enjoy running around in the sunshine anyway
