Hillend 11th May
World Orienteering Day
ESOC’s contribution to World Orienteering Day at the Hillend drew very strong participation from ELO members. More than 20 club members took part and there were excellent performances on all courses – too many to list here. These are just the most notable on each course …
White – Emily Atkinson was 1st in 16:59
Yellow – Joel Atkinson was 1st in 21:15
Orange – Iona Riley was 8th in 22:56 – just three minutes behind the winner and only beaten by very experienced orienteers
Score – Ian Rowland was 4th in 42:20 – less than three minutes behind the winner.
All the courses used the steep hillsides around the ski slopes and featured appreciable climb and accurate navigation through the many gorse bushes. The Score in particular needed good planning to hit all controls without too much reascent.
