Scottish Championships 2016
What a difference a day makes. None of the eight ELO runners will look back with great satisfaction at their performances in Saturday’s Individual championships. But the following day everyone put in strong Relay performances with no mis-punching and no major errors across the board.
Both days were held in the Balmoral estate on Deeside with challenging courses across steep wooded terrain which included many areas of mossy boulders making fast progress a risky prospect. An excellent arena layout and sunny weather contributed to a very cheery atmosphere throughout the event.
Our only Individual bright spot was Neil McMillan’s third place in the M21V course. However Sunday brought another third (Scottish) place in the very competitive 20+ Handicap Relay. And our team in the 11+ Handicap came close to another podium finish.
Next year’s Scottish Championships may be held within East Lothian. Let’s hope we can get a good ELO turnout to improve Individual results and build on these strong Relay performances with some of our promising junior members showing their paces too.
